HOT TUBS FOR HOLIDAY LETS
A simple guide to purchasing, owning, and maintaining a hot tub for your Holiday Let Property in The Lake District
WHY ADD A HOT TUB TO YOUR HOLIDAY LET?
Properties with hot tubs can increase bookings by up to 20% over rentals that don't offer one. Owners of holiday rentals with hot tubs can enjoy a premium of 10-20% over those rentals without. Guests love hot tubs, and a holiday let with a hot tub provides year-round entertainment, attracting guests even in the winter months.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE OFFERING A HOT TUB IN YOUR HOLIDAY LETTING
If you're planning to purchase a hot tub for your holiday letting, there are a few things you should know before going ahead:
- You should have a suitable space for your hot tub to be situated, preferably outside and with plenty of room for access inside the cabinet.
- You should have a clean source of water with good pressure in order to fill up your tub quickly inbetween guests.
- By law, you must have a certified person or company responsible for the maintenance and water treatment of your tub.
PURCHASING A HOT TUB
Choose a tub with the right water capacity - any tun below 1000 litres isn't appropriate for holiday letting.
When selecting a hot tub for your property we would highly recommend BALBOA electronics for easy repair and replacement.
MOre jets & accessories such as speakers doesn't necessarily mean a better experience for guests.
Where possible select a tub with a smooth acrylic shell in white. A white shell will make the water very appealing to your guests!
HOT TUB MAINTENANCE
If you use your hot tub or swimming pool for business purposes it is essential that you have a certified water treatment programme in place to ensure the safety of your guests.
The certified person or company should make a risk assessment of your tub using industry codes of practice and guidance as well as local, practical knowledge.
From this risk assessment they should create a robust treatment and cleaning schedule to meet what is required. This schedule should include regular checks of the chemical balance, regular water changes, cleaning practices and laboratory sampling.
Your certified person or company should also keep detailed visit records in order to make sure that your tub or pool is safe for guests to use.

USEFUL TIPS
With 3&4 day lets becoming more popular with owners, it is very important to have a hot, outside tap available for filling up the hot tub on changeover.
On average it takes around 16-20 hours to heat a hot tub from cold which means your guests stand to lose a day of the hot tub use when they arrive.
When purchasing a hot tub cover, we highly recommend the use of a lifting arm attachment which will allow the lid to be stowed safely and reduce wear and tear.
